Done and done.
I learned a lot and now know that my time will only improve at the next race, in about a month.
I hit the two mile marker feeling pretty great, at just under 18 minutes, then I got hit with a cramp and a massive urge to pee (which didn't help the cramp). This was just about where the hill started and half way up, I walked for a few minutes.
Looking back, and considering the rush that I got at the top of the hill, I shouldn't have walked. Nonetheless, at hilltop, I ran the rest at a quicker pace and clocked in finish at 30m20sec, just about the middle of the pack.
The winning man, 19 min I believe, was running with a freakin' dog - as were many others at this animal shelter benefit. A 5 year old finished at 34 minutes; damn impressive...
Next time:
- Under 27 minutes. This should be fairly attainable goal.
- Just eat a granola bar or fruit before the race. Laura had made me a fruit and soymilk smoothy, which I think contributed to the cramp.
- Get my whiz on before the race.
- Run through a cramp.
Damn, that post-race beer tasted mighty nice.
